I will be frank, I always liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Just a few clicks and a client can place an order using a freelancer based on a specific set of deliverables.
Sure, but it comes at a cost. A major one.
This is just one the few freelance platforms where buyers are given free reign to abuse, threaten and outright blackmail sellers any way they like.
Why? Since Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this informative article, I'd like to discuss a new bad experience as a seller on Fiverr, and I decided to give up on the platform entirely.
How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
(I've been guiding her building up a respectable account, and how to go beyond and above every last purchase. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an audience )
In cases like this, she had only gotten another $5 order on her emblem gig, which seemed to be like another... so we believed.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my girlfriend had even included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (which is usually a part of the pricier bundle ).
The client"loved" one of those concepts so we moved to ship her the appropriates record sizes, as mentioned in the gig description.
The customer came back asking for a social networking kit to decide on the emblem, something which is clearly not offered as a member of her gig.
In my advice, my girlfriend decided to deliver the additional job, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the customer responded with more requirements and a few changes to the social media files.
At this point, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this individual, they were clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
This is when the customer went from only overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a reply and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the client did eventually go on and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to demonstrate her he/she was The Best 23 Fiverr Gigs For Online Marketers : How To Outsource ... not kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the service question, the client paid an additional $10 to your social networking kit.
Needless to say, the payment was accompanied by still another danger.
At this point, all I wished to do was go all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so I could punch them from the face.
However, at the time, I still had hope that Fiverr service will step in and rescue my girlfriend from this PITA client.
After the answer came from Fiverr support, they told her they could Fiverr Review – Legit Or Scam? Web Traffic Lounge not force the purchaser to take the order.
Alright, that's reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a listing for the buyer to reveal the job has been done in accordance to the gig requirements.
My girlfriend hauled in her initial email that the customer was trying to extort her for free work outside the agreed periods, by making a negative review if she didn't comply.
Obviously, it was not really about the job, it was all about seeking protection against an abusive client who had been blatantly pushing his luck.
Their reply did not give us some confidence that Fiverr actually knew that, and even at this point we felt like they didn't want to get involved.
At exactly the exact same time, she responded navigate to these guys to the buyers latest danger, explaining that she would not continue to operate together unless the feedback was changed/removed.
(Again, this will be feedback that has been clearly and blatantly made to bully her into providing work out of the agreed conditions .)
A fair petition by anyones standards, appropriate? Well, apparently not.
As opposed to acknowledge what the purchaser had done up until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the one breaking all the rules.
Because she'd asked the client to modify their opinions, she was no longer entitled to any assistance from Fiverr assistance.
It is possible to imagine how we both felt reading this.
Everything that the buyer had done and said before her final message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened in any way.
Fiverr basically opted to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an accounts she'd worked so hard to accumulate.
If everything that happened was not upsetting enough, it is knowing that this man is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers without a sprinkling of repercussion.
And believe me, there are plenty of buyers doing precisely this on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
But as all this was happening, I did a little research to find out whether some other sellers went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.
Very quickly, I found a variety of almost identical cases over the Fiverr forum outdated years back. (that's correct, decades.)
This is obviously something which's been happening for a long time and it stems from giving buyers too much power over sellers.
When there's 1 thing I've learned about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time you put into a job, or how hard you've worked on itor even how well you handled communication in a dispute, as it actually boils down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it is a very clear cut case in your favour, there's still every chance the customer will come out on top. All it takes it one little thing that you"did wrong" according to their own conditions of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Looking at the signs, it is clear to me that Fiverr is well aware of what's happening, yet is still prepared to settle back and let it happen.
A Last Message To Fiverr. If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reevaluate your present support procedures for freelancers.
It is not right that somebody can put all the time and effort in establishing an account and also over-delivering at every possible chance, only to be shot down by the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I don't want to leave Fiverr. I don't want to be telling folks to avoid your own platform.
But after everything that's occurred, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done to protect freelancers from this type of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this post and do anything I can to prevent others from falling victim to a one-sided support staff.
The second you actually do something about this and provide freelancers a means to fight , I'll be happy to update the post.
